With a new roster of athletes set to represent the United States and a new format designed to create more exciting matches, the last three years have brought plenty of change to the world of Olympic taekwondo.
Below are some of the biggest storylines from the sport that will have an impact on the upcoming 2024 Olympic Games.
CJ Nickolas becomes Team USA's top medal hopeful After having no men qualify for the Olympic taekwondo team in Tokyo, the United States now has a strong medal contender in time for the Paris Games.
It marked the first time an American man won a medal of any color at a world championship since 2009.
Competition rules get tweaked for 2024 Olympics Ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics, World Taekwondo has adopted new competition rules.
Most notably, matches will still be three rounds, but instead of cumulative scoring, a best-of-three format will be used.
The score resets at the start of each round, and athletes must win two of the three rounds to win the match.
As a result, the sudden-death overtime "golden point round" has been eliminated.
According to World Taekwondo officials, the format change is designed to create more action from start to finish and prevent stalling tactics.

Taekwondo made its first appearance at the Olympics as a demonstration sport at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea.
Taekwondo was again a demonstration sport at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain.
Taekwondo became a full medal sport at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, and has been a sport in the Olympic games since then.
The quest to bring taekwondo to the Olympics began in 1974 in the United States when taekwondo was admitted into the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU).
In 1994, the IOC adopted taekwondo as an official Olympic sport for the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia.
Taekwondo was included in the following international sporting events: World Cup (1986), Asian Games (1986), All-Africa Games (1986), and the Pan American Games (1987).
Up until the 2012 Summer Olympics, a National Olympic Committee could only send a maximum of two men and two women competitors, without regard whether it is the host nation.
This restriction has been lifted for the 2016 Summer Olympics, so each National Olympic Committee may now qualify one athlete per weight category.
Medals are awarded in four different weight classes for both men and women.
Updated after the 2024 Summer Olympics.

Taekwondo will never be removed from the Olympic Games. I can say with certainty that, unless the IOC is foolish, they will never remove such a valuable sport from the Olympics. stringWithFormathe fact that Korea, the home country of Taekwondo, didn’t win a single gold medal paradoxically means that Taekwondo has successfully globalized. So, it’s not something to be entirely upset about. Taekwondo meets the criteria of universality, allowing athletes from any country to easily participate; equality, offering equal opportunities regardless of economic power; and it aligns with the Olympic spirit. 단언컨대, IOC가 바보가 아닌 이상, 이런 효자 종목을 퇴출시킬 일은 없을 것이다, 안심하자. 태권도가 올림픽 종목에서 퇴출될 일은 없다!
