As with all contact sports, injuries can be common in Taekwondo. The most important step towards preventing injuries is to adhere to the rules regarding protective gear. Requirements for protective padding differ depending on the form of taekwondo practiced, due to the fact that there is a varying intensity of contact. Mouth guards are not compulsory, but you should wear one during sparring matches, especially in ITF matches as the head is an approved target area. Additionally, male participants should also wear the groin guard, even though it is optional. Avoiding injuries inflicted during attacks Self-inflicted injuries happen when participants hurt themselves while attempting to attack their opponents. It is also important to know when to stop. Board breaking is a big source of serious injuries like broken toes and fingers. Excessive training, especially before a match, can cause exhaustion. This means that they are less likely to be alert, and their muscles are overworked before the match even begins, which slows down their actions and puts them at a disadvantage.

Sparring is a safe and enjoyable activity. Here are some measures that minimize the risk of injury: Start sparring at an appropriate belt rank, once students have demonstrated control, accuracy of kicks, and ability to follow directions from instructors. Wear appropriate protective gear, including helmet, chest guard (hogu), arm guard, gloves, shin guards, foot pads, mouth guards. Follow rules and regulations. We use Olympic Taekwondo style rules for safety. Practice good control and technique. Regularly check and replace protective gear. Over time, protective gear can become worn or damaged, making it less effective. Regularly check your gear and replace it as needed to ensure that it continues to provide adequate protection during sparring.

Sparring is a controlled form of fighting that allows students to practice and refine their techniques in a safe and controlled environment. At Reveal Martial Arts, students benefit from light contact sparring, which has numerous advantages over full-contact sparring. First and foremost, light contact sparring is much safer than full-contact sparring. Light contact sparring involves lighter hits and strikes that do not cause significant harm to the sparring partner. This means that students can practice their techniques without worrying about getting injured, which makes the training process much more enjoyable and effective. In conclusion, light contact sparring is an essential part of martial arts training, and students at Reveal Martial Arts benefit greatly from this type of sparring. It is a safer and more effective way for students to practice and refine their techniques.

Sparring can only be done under strict supervision of the instructor. Sparring will always be done in a safe, controlled and respectful environment. No overly aggressive and hurtful behavior will be tolerated. Students will need to always wear full sparring equipment in good condition to ensure the safety of the students. Full equipment includes helmet, chest and groin protectors, arm and leg guards, and mouth guard. Students need to adjust their sparring style based on their partner abilities and always control the intensity of their strikes. If a student is not comfortable during the sparring at any time, he should immediately notify his partner and/or instructor. Contact is not permitted to the following areas: face, throat, back and below the belt. If an illegal move has been done by mistake, please stop immediately, apologize and make sure that your sparring partner is OK.
